About

Max’s Story

Max began his career with the Davis County Surveyor’s Office in the Fall of 1959. He began working under Don Davis. Max worked hard and obtained his surveyor’s license in 1964. In 1986, then acting surveyor H. Glenn Austin decided to retire and Max was selected to serve the remainder of Glenn’s term. Max has since served 9 consecutive terms. Of those terms, all but one have been unopposed – not because it’s a lousy job, but because of the respect surveyors from all over our state have for Max as a person as well as an incredible county surveyor.

Community

Max has been a sounding board throughout the state for other County Surveyor’s as well as the private sector in helping to solve their survey problems.

It’s obvious what kind of leader Max is when some of the longest tenured county employee’s continue to work or have worked for Max. His ability to do a quick calculation in his head or remember details of the county that happened before many citizens were born is unprecedented. His ability to find an old map in some box that hasn’t been used for 25 years is part of his legacy. Max is an example of an honest, good man. Davis county is lucky to have such a public servant.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

In 2002, Max was selected by his peers to be the recipient of the Outstanding County Official Award Surveyor.
